Ludwig Durek

Ludwig Durek ( born January 27, 1921 in Vienna, † 2000) was an Austrian football player at the position of a striker. During the time of the Anschluss of Austria, he was also active in the German national football team.

Club career

The Vienna began with the association-moderate football game at the age of twelve years at FC Nicholson and remained his home club, who appeared very successful as FC Vienna from 1933 to 1946 faithful. In the game season 1938/39 he managed with the Favoritner history, the club champion in one of the county class Vienna A and with the superior first place in the rise of games ( against Linzer ASK, WSV BU Neunkirchen and WSV Donawitz ) unbeaten promotion to the highest league.

His biggest success at club level, he celebrated winning the runner-up title by the Vienna FC in the season 1941/42, behind Vienna. In 1946 he moved to Graz to SK Sturm, with whom he won the Styrian championship and just as often the National Cup to 1956 three times. At 35, he went to the Upper Styria and played for the newly minted national champion WSV Donawitz. After several club Jump 1963 he finished his playing career at FC Graz.

Change to the coach office

After his active career as a football player Durek moved into coaching positions and was responsible, among other things, the teams of Sturm Graz, WSV Donawitz and the Klagenfurt AC.

National

From 1940 to 1942, he played six international matches for Germany. In the first two, both against Slovakia, he scored a goal each.

That same year, the re-emergence of the Republic of Austria, the striker made ​​his debut in the Austrian national team, celebrated on August 19, 1945 under Team Principal Karl Zankl in the first post-war international match ( 0-2 against Hungary in Budapest). His second and at the same time last international match for Austria, he played the next day in the second match against arch-rivals, also with a defeat ( 2:5 ) of the Austrians ended. After the two defeats, there was a coaching change. Under the following team leader Edi Bauer Ludwig Durek was no consideration with which his actual team career was ended for Austria after just two international matches again. After a three-year hiatus was convened in 1948 as a player of SK Sturm Graz team boss Edi Frühwirth as the sole representative of a "provincial association" in the team squad for the Olympic Games in London, remained as a substitute but no further use.

Achievements

This and That

Durek was one of 21 players who competed both for Germany and for Austria. From 1960 to 1981 he was chairman of the old International Styria. In 1995 he received the Medal of the management Styria.
