Ludwig Franz Alexander Winther

Ludwig Franz Alexander Winther ( born March 9, 1812 in Offenbach am Main, † April 26, 1871 in Gießen ) was a German pathologist and ophthalmologist (eye doctor).

Life

Winther studied from summer semester 1831 medicine at the University of Giessen, where he became in 1831 a member of the Old Giessen fraternity Germania and 1833 the Corps Palatia. From 1848 to 1867 he was associate professor of general pathology and therapy, and from 1867 until his death in 1871 first professor of general pathology and pathological anatomy at the University of Giessen.

Winther 1847 was a founding member of the Giessen special collar, a faculty association at the University of Giessen.

He was the son of the ophthalmologist Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Balser.
