Ludwig Hirzel (historian)

Ludwig Hirzel ( born February 23, 1838 in Zurich, † June 1, 1897 in Bern ) was a Swiss historian of literature.

Ludwig Hirzel, son of the theologian Ludwig Hirzel (1801-1841; "Commentary on Job ", 1839 ;), studied in Zurich, in Jena and Berlin, in 1862 a high school teacher in Frauenfeld, 1866 teacher at the Cantonal School in Aarau and was a professor since 1874 German language and literature at the University of Bern.

He wrote:

  • Goethe's Italian journey (Basel, 1871),
  • Schiller's relations to antiquity (Aarau, 1872),
  • Charles Ruckstuhl, a contribution to the Goethe- literature (Strasbourg 1876)

He also gave Albrecht von Haller's poems (1882 ) and diaries (Leipzig 1883) and Salomon Hirzel (publisher) s " directory of a Goethe- library " ( Leipzig, 1884, with supplements and continued) out.
