Ludwig Wilhelm Maurer

Ludwig Wilhelm Maurer (also:. . Louis Maurer, born February 2, 1789 in Potsdam, † 13 Oktoberjul / October 25 1878greg in Saint Petersburg ) was a German composer, conductor and violinist.

Life

1802 Maurer joined in Berlin for the first time on the violin. After a short stay in Latvia Jelgava, where he was taught by Pierre Rode in the French style of violin playing, Maurer was 17 -year-old to Russia, where he remained resident for the rest of his life. Therefore, it is considered both as a German and as a Russian composer.

After his arrival in St. Petersburg Maurer had numerous appearances until the French violinist and composer Pierre Baillot gave him a position as conductor at the court of Prince Wsewoloschskis. Maurer led the orchestra until 1817, then went on a tour to Germany and to Paris. From 1819 he took advantage of Hannover as a base from which he toured and where he composed. During this time he co-wrote with Alexei Verstovsky operas in the vaudeville style. Later he traveled with his sons Vsevolod and Alexis, the violin and cello played by Germany.

1833 Maurer, however, went back to St. Petersburg and remained there until his death. In 1834 he was the soloist at the first performance of Beethoven's Violin Concerto in Russia. 1835 Maurer conductor and music director of the St. Petersburg French opera. Until his death in October 1878, he held several additional positions in the musical life of the city, next to he composed.
