Luena River, Angola

Luena, also Lwena, is a river in the Western Province of Zambia.

The Luena originates on the western border of Kafue National Park, 350 km flows west and seeps just before he would reach the Zambezi in the Luena floodplains, a Kalahari sand area that is feared for his Tiefsandigkeit among drivers. The sand layers are here several tens of meters and form a groundwater reservoir, which was until today neither assessed nor ever used to supply drinking water or irrigation.

The shorelines of the river in its upper and middle reaches are relatively densely populated and almost constantly surrounded by fields. Only slightly north, almost parallel to the meandering river, the road from Lusaka to Mongu, which supply and market access of this area secures.
