Luigi Alva

Luigi Alva, actually Luigi Ernesto Alva y Talledo ( born April 10, 1927 in Lima) is a Peruvian singer in the vocal range lyric tenor. His focus was on the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Gioachino Rossini. Particularly appreciated were his interpretations of Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia.

Life

After the first vocal studies in his native Peru Alva moved to Milan in 1953, where he made ​​his debut in 1954 as Alfredo in Verdi's La traviata and was inducted into the Vocal Academy La Scala. The breakthrough came in 1956 Alva with his commitment as Count Almaviva at the side of Maria Callas. In the following years he has sung at all the major festivals and in major European opera houses. His debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, he gave in 1964.

In the sixties and seventies, Luigi Alva was one of the undisputed stars of the international opera scene. He worked with the greatest conductors of the time such as Otto Klemperer, Herbert von Karajan, Carlo Maria Giulini and Claudio Abbado. He always remained true to its original repertoire and refused further offers.

1982 Alva returned back to Peru in order to devote himself to teaching. His final farewell to the stage he took in 1989. To date, Alva operated as a singing teacher at La Scala opera performances and organized in his hometown of Lima.
