Luis Batlle Berres

Luis Conrado " Lusito " Batlle Berres (* November 26, 1897 in Montevideo, Uruguay; † July 15, 1964 same place ) was a Uruguayan politician and journalist.

Batlle Berres was born as the son of Luis Batlle y Ordóñez and the Petrona Berres. He was the nephew of José Batlle y Ordóñez. Battle Berres was married to Matilde Ibáñez Talice. From this marriage three children were born. These were the sons Jorge Luis Batlle Ibáñez, who was President of Uruguay from 2000 to 2005, Luis Batlle Ibáñez and pianist. He also had a daughter named Matilde.

He received at the Escuela Elbio Fernández and the Universidad de la República His school and university curricula. He then worked for ten years as a journalist for the daily newspaper El Dia. Later he was the owner and director of montevideanischen or saltenischen radio stations CX 10 Radio Ariel and CW 47 radio Tabaré and in 1948 founded the newspaper Acción. In the course of his political career, he was from 1923 to 1933, first deputy in Uruguay. There followed a period of political exile in the years 1933 to 1937. His government work brought economic prosperity, which was mainly supported by Uruguayan exports during the Korean War ( 1950-1953 ).
