Luis Concha Córdoba

Cardinal Luis Concha Córdoba ( born November 7, 1891 in Bogotá, Colombia; † September 18, 1975 ibid ) was Archbishop of Bogotá.

Life

Luis Concha Córdoba studied in Bogota, Paris and Rome, the subjects of Catholic theology and philosophy. When he received the sacrament of priestly ordination on 28 October 1916 his father was acting President of the Republic of Colombia. In the first two years after his ordination, Luis Concha Córdoba worked as a parish pastor in Bogota. After further study he was 1920 Spiritual and lecturer at the Seminary of Bogotá. 1921 awarded him Pope Benedict XV. the title Private Chamberlain to His Holiness. In 1922, Luis Concha Córdoba member of the Metropolitan Chapter of Bogotá. In the years 1933 and 1934, he provided the duties of a secretary at the diocesan curia. In the following two years he served as Vicar General of the Administration of the Archdiocese of Bogotá.

1935 Pope Pius XI appointed him. Bishop of Manizales. At the same place he was in 1954 with the collection of the Diocese of Manizales archdiocese archbishop. Pope John XXIII. appointed him in 1959 as Archbishop of Bogotá. In the years 1959-1972 Luis Concha Córdoba in addition acted as the office of the Colombian military bishop.

In 1961, Pope John XXIII. as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria Nuova in the College of Cardinals. Luis Concha Córdoba participated in the years 1962-1965 at the Second Vatican Council. The management of the Archdiocese of Bogotá he laid in 1972 for reasons of age; his resignation was by Paul VI. granted.

He died on September 18, 1975 in Bogotá and was buried in the local Metropolitan Basilica.
