Luis Oliva

Luis Oliva ( born June 21, 1908 in La Paz, Cordoba, Argentina Province, † June 30, 2009 in Córdoba, Argentina) was an Argentine athlete who was twice South American champions.

Luis Oliva won at the South Championships in 1931 in 3000 -meter run in 8:46,8 minutes. In this discipline, there was only one team championship, which he won with the Argentine team. At the Olympics 1932 he gave up in the 3000 - meter steeplechase water flow. The following year, Oliva won at the South Championships in 1933 again over 3000 meters and won his second title with the team. In the 5000 - meter race he ran behind his compatriot Roger Caballos to second place. On the marathon at the Olympic Games 1936, Oliva prepared with the Olympic champion from 1932 Juan Carlos Zabala. Both runners then gave the Berlin marathon on the go. Oliva tried again to qualify for the Olympic Games 1940. After these games were canceled because of World War II, Oliva ended his athletic career, he worked as a sports teacher. The 1.75 meter tall Oliva had a competition weight of 69 kilograms. He died shortly after his 101st birthday.
