Luis Ortiz Monasterio

Luis Ortiz Monasterio ( born August 23, 1906 in Mexico City; † February 16, 1990 ) was a Mexican sculptor. He was in 1968 one of the founding members of the Academia de Artes.

Biography

Ortiz studied from 1921 to 1924 at the Academia de San Carlos (now the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM) under Ignacio Asúnsolo, where he stayed till 1926 as professor taught sculpture for his study trip through California, and later to the renaming again from 1931 to 1962 at this time., he exhibited his works successfully in the Mexican National Gallery in Los Angeles and California. He also taught with great commitment at the Instituto Nacional Politécnico (IPN ) at the art schools of the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP ) and the national champion school, the Escuela Nacional de Maestros. Mostly he made sculptures in bronze, stone and terracotta, from the mid- 40s with color. With its techniques and variations he coined the Mexican art movement of the 20th century with decisive.
