Luis Paret y Alcázar
Luis Paret y Alcázar (* February 11, 1746 in Madrid, † 1799 ) was a Spanish painter of the Rococo.
Life
He was the son of a Spanish mother and a French Catalan origin. Paret y Alcazar went first with the French jeweler Augustin Duflos into teaching and then at the monk Bartolomé de San Antonio ( 1708-1782 ). He studied four years at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid with Antonio Gonzalez Velazquez and won there in 1760 and a second in 1766 first prize. In addition, he studied with the French painter Charles de la Traverse, who was a pupil of Francois Boucher and had accompanied the French ambassador Marquis de Ossun to Spain. 1763 to 1766 he was in Rome. , With the support of the brother of King Charles III, the Infante Luis Antonio de Borbon ( 1727-1785 ) to complete his education. Maybe he also traveled to France. 1775 to 1778 he was banished three years after Puerto Rico (probably due to the complications in the love affairs of his patron, the Infante Don Luis de Borbon ), where José Campeche ( 1751-1809 ) was his pupil. After that, he lived as still banned from Madrid, ten years in Bilbao. He also painted many paintings of religious content. In 1788 he returned to the court.
In 1780 he was admitted to the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (due to a painting about Diogenes ). The king appointed him secretary of the Committee of Architecture.
He is best known as a chronicler of the happenings at the Spanish court known as a painter of receptions and events, often on behalf of the king. He painted alongside courtly scenes and harbor views (even in a royal commission in 1786 ), landscapes, genre scenes and flowers still life. He also illustrated the works of Miguel de Cervantes and Francisco de Quevedo. Paret y Alcazar itself possessed an unusual literary education. He also painted several portraits, including of Maria Luisa of Parma and Charles IV as Prince of Asturias.
In his last years he painted the chapel of San Juan del Ramo from the church of Santa Maria in Viana ( Navarre ).
