Luis Yáñez-Barnuevo

Luis Yáñez- Barnuevo García ( born April 12, 1943 in Coria del Río ) is a Spanish physician and politician of the socialist party PSOE. He is a member of the European Parliament.

Life

After studying medicine and surgery, from which he graduated in 1967, received his doctorate Yáñez- Barnuevo 1970 in gynecology. From 1971 he was an assistant in gynecology in Seville, from 1974 head of the gynecology unit in Málaga.

Politically, he joined even during the Franco dictatorship, the then- banned party PSOE on to their lead in Seville Felipe González and Alfonso Guerra scored. During the transition to democracy Yáñez- Barnuevo from 1975 to 1979 at the PSOE Executive Board member responsible for international relations. 1980 to 1985 he was chairman of the party in the region of Andalusia.

In the first democratic elections in 1977 Yáñez- Barnuevo was elected to the Spanish Congress of Deputies, where he remained until 2000. During the reign of Felipe González from 1985 to 1991 he was Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Latin America. From 1991, he also belonged to the city council of Seville, where he was the spokesman of the PSOE Group.

From 1999 to 2004, Yáñez- Barnuevo member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Western European Union. Finally, he was elected in the 2004 European elections to the European Parliament. He was a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and in the Subcommittee on Security and Defence.

MEPs

In the period 2009-2014 Yáñez- Barnuevo is Chairman of the Delegation for relations with the Mercosur countries.

He is a member in the Conference of Delegation Chairs, the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, the Subcommittee on Security and Defence and in the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly.

As a deputy, he is in the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China.
