Lumbo

Province

Lumbo is a small port town in the province of Nampula in Mozambique.

Geography

Lumbo lies in a wide but sheltered bay on the narrowest part of the Mozambique Channel.

Economy and infrastructure

The town lives on fishing, the export of cashew nuts and wood, and tourism, as declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site of Ilha de Moçambique directly opposite and the bridge leads from here to the island. Lumbo is as it were the land side of this historically and therefore significant tourist island, which was the seat of the Portuguese governor for centuries. Lumbo has several upscale hotels

Since the civil war the railway to Nampula is set. The airport has no scheduled flights. Here land only small passenger planes.
