Steindachneria argentea

Steindachneria argentea is a 30 inches long expectant marine fish from the order of cod -like ( gadiformes ). It comes in depths from 180 to 400 meters in front of the tropical western Atlantic, from the coast of Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to the coast of Venezuela.

Features

Steindachneria argentea has an elongated, laterally flattened and rear tapered body without caudal fin. Its color is silvery, the top slightly brownish purple shimmering below. His long anal fin is supported 123-125 fin rays. The dorsal fin is divided, the first is short and high and has a single dorsal spine, the second is low and long. The pelvic fins, the first rays are extended, are located near the front below the pectoral fins. Anus and genital opening are separated, the anus is located far forward between the pelvic fins, the genital opening before the beginning of the anal fin. The larvae of the anus is located just before the anal fin and hiking in the course of development forward. System

The systematic classification of the species is controversial. The American ichthyologist Joseph S. Nelson assigns them to the only species of the subfamily Steindachneriinae the hake ( Merlucciidae ). The Japanese ichthyologist Hiromitsu Endo, the kind in a monotypic family, is to be the sister group of grenadiers also tail fins loose ( Macrouridae ).
