Luna (Cluj)

Luna (deprecated Luna de Aries, Luna Arieşana; Lone German, Hungarian Aranyoslóna or Gerendlóna ) is a municipality in the district of Cluj in Transylvania, Romania.

Location

Luna is located in the extreme southeast of the circle Cluj, on the right bank of the river Aries, shortly before its confluence with the Mureş. The county town Cluj-Napoca is located around 40 km ( straight line ) northwest of Luna.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1270 under the name Lona. He belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary. In documents from the 16th century is already from a predominantly Romanian population of the question. 1651 was largely destroyed by a fire during riots of the place. Luna made ​​after several decades a serious crisis; 1710 the plague raged, 1717 Tartars invaded. 1784 serfs from Luna in the uprising involved under Horea.

In September 1848 gathered at Luna Romanian farmers from eight villages to protest against conscription into the Hungarian revolutionary army. Population
