Lutz Hachmeister

Lutz Hachmeister ( born September 10, 1959 in Minden, North Rhine -Westphalia ) is a German professor of Journalism, non-fiction author and film producer. He was for many years head of the Adolf Grimme Institute.

Life

Lutz Hachmeister studied communication science, sociology and philosophy in Münster and Berlin. He graduated in 1986 with a dissertation on the history of communication science in Germany from.

From 1987 to 1989 he worked as media editor of the Berliner Tagesspiegel, then from 1989 to 1995 as Director of the Adolf- Grimme -Institut in Marl, Westphalia.

From 1991 to 2001 he founded and led in consequence of the Cologne TV and Film Festival Cologne Conference. During the same period he was in the Cologne Society of media consultancy HMR International of which he is partner since 1995.

In 1999 he qualified as a professor of journalism at the University of Dortmund where she teaches media history and politics.

From 2000 to 2002 Hachmeister was chairman of the jury of the German Television Award.

Since 1997, he took over the direction and conception of documentary TV programs and documentaries, including Hotel Provencal, Riviera and Prison - Landsberg and the emergence of the Republic. His documentation Schleyer - A German Story was awarded the 2004 Adolf Grimme Award in gold as well as the Grimme Audience Award. At the Berlinale 2005, the documentary The Goebbels Experiment of Hachmeister and Michael Kloft premiere. 2009 received Hachmeister together with Mathias von der Heide German Television Award for the documentary Friendship - The Free German Youth. Hachmeister documentary The chefs and the stars, an " enlightening portrait of the three-star milieu " ( Nils Minkmar ), shows the work of nine top chefs under pressure from the annual assessment by the Michelin Guide. The docu-drama The Real American - Joe McCarthy (2011 /12), shown on U.S. television in a modified version under the title Enemies Within ( Smithsonian Channel), designated Pulitzer Prize winner Dorothy Rabinowitz in the Wall Street Journal as a " work of irreproachable clarity " (" a work of impeccable clarity ").

In February 2006 Hachmeister opened the Scientific Institute of Media and Communication Policy ( IfM) in Berlin- Charlottenburg. It will be devoted to the previously neglected research into media policy in Germany, Europe and worldwide, and is funded in part by media companies, partly through public ( third-party) means.

From 7 March 2009 to 31 January 2010 Hachmeister was a member of the Media Council of the media authority of Berlin -Brandenburg.

In connection with the plagiarism scandal surrounding the CSU politician Karl -Theodor zu Guttenberg Hachmeister initiated in February 2011, a campaign in which he explained together with supporters, he would let his doctorate in protest as long rest, as zu Guttenberg as minister in will remain office.
