Blood milk mushroom ( Lycogala epidendrum )

Lycogala is composed of only a few species of the genus slime molds in the order of Liceida. Her most famous and the most common representative is the blood milk mushroom ( Lycogala epidendrum ).

Description

The fruiting bodies are round to conical or pincushion Aethalien, the approach usually been rejuvenated, but sessile. The cortex is coarse, brittle or tough, smooth or marked with warts or scales that pattern the surface reticulate. The colorless Pseudocapillitium is branched, almost smooth sculpted to warty or wrinkled. The spore mass is dark brown, gray or bright pink, the spores measure 5-8 microns in diameter

Distribution and systematics

The genus has a worldwide distribution and most populated rotten wood. It was first described in 1729 by Pier Antonio Micheli, the type species is Lycogala epidendrum. The genus includes only a few species, including:
