The Brownish Puffball ( Lycoperdon umbrinum ) is a mushroom of the family of mushroom relatives ( Agaricaceae ).
Features
The fruiting body is pear-shaped to almost spherical. The color is initially pale brownish gray, later the medium to dark brown. He is two to four inches high. He is busy with lots of soft spikes that crumbles easily. The spines are under a millimeter long and form after dropping no reticulation. Smell and taste are spicy- fungal. The spore powder is olive brown. The spores are round, dotted to feinwarzig with a diameter of 3.5 to 5.5 microns.
Occurrence
The species is native to Central Europe. It occurs particularly in coniferous forests under spruce, especially in the mountains, above. It grows on acid as on calcareous subsoil.
Feed value
The fungus is edible in a young state.
