Lydia Mei

Lydia Mei ( born July 2, 1896, Hiiumaa, † 1965) was an Estonian painter who painted mostly still lifes in watercolor technique.

Lydia Mei was the middle of three daughters of a ship's captain. All three sisters were active in artistic, Lydia and Natalie Mei gained public attention in the 1920s, as the New Objectivity coined the Estonian art.

Mei had studied until 1918 architecture at the Polytechnic Institute for Women in St. Petersburg. However, they became known as a watercolor painter for her still life in the late 1920s and as an illustrator of books. Later she married the sculptor Anton Star head.
