M. Blaine Peterson

Morris Blaine Peterson ( born March 26, 1906 in Ogden, Utah; † July 15, 1985 ) was an American politician. Between 1961 and 1963 he represented the first electoral district of the state of Utah in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years

Blaine Peterson attended the public schools of his home. Then he studied until 1931, the University of Utah. This was followed up in 1938 to study law at the Law School of Georgetown University. After graduating Peterson worked for some time for Eugene E. Pratt, a judge of the Supreme Court of Utah. Since 1941 he worked as a lawyer.

Ascent to Congressman

Peterson was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1955 to 1957 he was a member of the Parliament of Utah. In addition, he was district attorney in Weber County. In 1960, he was elected in the first district of Utah, simultaneously with the election of Democrat John F. Kennedy as U.S. president in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he Republican Henry Aldous Dixon replaced on January 3, 1961. Since Peterson already at the next election the Republican Laurence J. Burton was defeated, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1963.

After the end of his term in Congress Peterson 1963 Advisor to the Director of the " Food for Peace" program (Food for Peace ). From 1968 to 1969 he was a member of the Great Salt Lake Authority. He was also chairman of the Association of taxpayers in Weber County.
