M. G. Ramachandran

MG Ramachandran ( Ramachandran Marudur Gopalamenon ) ( born January 17, 1917 in Kandy, Sri Lanka, † December 29, 1987 in Madras, Tamil Nadu ) was an Indian film actor and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He was Sivaji Ganesan and Gemini Ganesan alongside the most influential star of Tamil film. On it is often simply referred only with the abbreviation MGR.

Life and work

Film

His family moved to Tamil Nadu when he was a child and lived in poverty. At the age of six years Ramachandran has already worked in a theater group. His first film appearance in 1936, but the breakthrough came only with Rajakumari (1947). In the 1950s, Ramachandran acted as hero in many adventure films, so in Madurai Veeran (1956). Until the 1970s, he worked as an actor in the Tamil film. His life was made ​​into a film by the fictional Tamil director Mani Ratnam in the film Iruvar.

Policy

MG Ramachandran was engaged politically since 1953 and was already in the 1960s for his party, the " Association for the advancement of Dravidians " ( Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, DMK ) in Tamil Parliament. In 1972 he founded the Anna- DMK, in 1977, later renamed under the name " Alli Discher Anna- collar for the advancement of Dravidians " ( All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, AIADMK ), the election in the state won along with Indira Gandhi's Congress Party. MG Ramachandran became Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He also won the next two elections and remained until his death in office. His leadership style was totalitarian and populist.

MG Ramachandran did his popularity to maintain good and he was partly idolized. 22 people committed in 1987 during a severe illness Ramachandran's suicide in hopes to help him with her death. His funeral ceremony was attended by more than 2 million people. In Madras even a temple was built to him as a deity.

MG Ramachandran was awarded the Bharat Ratna (1988 posthumously awarded ).
