M. K. Stalin

MK Stalin ( Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin, Tamil: .. மு க ஸ்டாலின்; born March 1, 1953 in Chennai) is an Indian politician of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regional party (DMK). 2006-2011 he was Minister for Rural Development and Local Government of the state of Tamil Nadu, 2009-2011 also Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Stalin is the son and designated successor of the DMK leader M. Karunanidhi.

Biography

MK Stalin was born on 1 March 1953 in Chennai ( Madras). He is the son of longtime DMK leader and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi and his wife Dayaluammal. Was named MK Stalin after Soviet dictator Josef Stalin.

At the age of 15 years, MK Stalin joined the youth movement of the DMK and was in his hometown Gopalapuram part in party work actively. While the national state of emergency, the Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had announced in 1975, was imprisoned until 1977 under Emergency Law (Maintenance of Internal Security Act ) for almost a year MK Stalin in 1976. 1984 candidate MK Stalin for the first time in Thousand Lights constituency in Chennai in elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly ( the parliament of the state ), but was defeated by the candidate of the AIADMK. In 1989 he joined in again and was first elected to Parliament. In early elections in 1991, the DMK suffered a crushing defeat but, and also Stalin lost his constituency to the AIADMK. In 1996 he was successful but again and returned to the assembly. Both 2001 and 2006 Stalin was able to defend the constituency, in 2011 he was in the Kolathur constituency in Chennai also successful.

Along with his deputies activity Stalin 1996, successfully as a DMK candidate for the first direct election of the mayor of Chennai. He was re- elected in 2001. But the following year he was forced to resign after the AIADMK government J. Jayalalithaas had enacted a law which forbade the accumulation of offices. The Madras High Court later declared the law null and void, but summoned at the same time that Stalin's re-election had not been allowed because a person is not allowed to set up twice in a row as a candidate for mayor. Shortly after the AIADMK won the elections in Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin was arrested in 2001 jointly with M. Karunanidhi and other senior DMK leaders in a cloak-and -dagger operation on charges of corruption. Background for the allegations were irregularities in the construction of flyovers in Chennai during Stalin's citizens championship. The arrest is seen as a case of political revenge on the part of Jayalalithaa and caused a crisis between the Government of Tamil Nadu and the central government.

After the DMK had again captured power in 2006, called the re-elected as Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi 's son MK Stalin as Minister for Rural Development and Local Administration in his cabinet. 2009 Stalin became Deputy Chief Minister. Both items he lost after the election victory of the AIADMK 2011. Since his appointment as Deputy Chief Minister Stalin was seen as the most promising successor Karunanidhis at the top of the DMK, even when his brother MK Azhagiri ( DMK politician and also a minister in the Indian government's total ) has asked Stalin's leadership in question. In January 2013, Karunanidhi Stalin appointed as his political heir.

Familial

MK Stalin has been married to his wife Durgavathy since 1975. He has a son Udayanidhi who works as a film producer, and a daughter, Senthamarai.
