M.J. Whelan

Michael John Whelan ( born November 2, 1931) is a British physicist. He is best known for his seminal work on transmission electron microscopy. He is Professor Emeritus. Oxford University.

Whelan studied at the University of Cambridge. In 1965 he published the work Electron Microscopy of Thin Crystals, along with Peter B. Hirsch, A. Howie, Pashley and Nicholson.

He is a Fellow of the Japanese Society of Microscopy (2003) and the Microscopy Society of America ( 2009).
