The M6 Toll motorway (English for, toll motorway M6 ' ) is the first freeway in the UK with toll charges and is located in the counties of Warwickshire, West Midlands and Staffordshire. The highway was first generally opened for local traffic, on 9 December 2003 and a few days later. The M6 Toll bypasses Birmingham and Walsall in the east and north, and on this route is an alternative to the existing M6. It is intended to equalize the traffic in Wolverhampton between the M54 and the M5. The M6, which was designed in this area for about 72,000 vehicles a day, had to cope with about 180,000 vehicles a day until the introduction of the alternative route.

Subscribers receive a small device which is placed behind the windscreen, communicated to the pay station with the local electronics and the barrier opens (similar to the French Télépéage ). At the entrance to the various tracks will indicate which payment options are available in each case.
