Ma Jian (writer)

Ma Jian (Chinese马 健/马 建, Pinyin Mǎ Jiàn, born August 18, 1953 in Qingdao, Shandong Province) is a Chinese author.

In 1976 he moved from Qingdao to Beijing. After some of his works were banned in the PRC, he went to Hong Kong, where he led the publishing house in Hong Kong New Century Press (in Chinese香港 新 世纪 出版社, Pinyin input xiang xin shiji chubanshe ) founded in 1986. From 1997 to 1999 he lived in Germany where she taught Modern Chinese Literature; Since 1999 he lives in England. He is married to Flora Drew, who translated his books into English. At the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2009, Ma Jian was the guest of non- official China program.
