Ma Rong (Han dynasty)

Ma Rong (Chinese马 融/马 融, Pinyin Mǎ Rong, W.-G. Ma Jung zì, : Jichang (季 长), * 79, † 166) was a Chinese scholar, writer and commentator from the time of the Eastern Han Dynasty.

He was born in Maoling (茂陵) in Fufeng (右 扶风), in the northeast of present-day village Xingping (兴平) in Shaanxi Province.

Known are his commentaries on the books of the Five Classics ( Wujing ). He was the first well-known scholar who has fully commented. He also developed the doppelspaltigen comment it.

His most important students were Lu Zhi (卢植) and Zheng Xuan (郑玄).

His biography is in the Book of Later Han ( Hou Hanshu ) included. He wrote the Rhapsody on the longitudinal flute ( Changdi fu长笛 赋) and possibly another classic under the title of loyalty ( Zhongjing忠 经) well-known work.

His works were lost in the Ming Dynasty under the title Ma jichang ji (马季 长 集) compiled to an output.
