Macleans College

The Macleans College is a New Zealand secondary school and is located in the district of Auckland Bucklands Beach. The school was opened in 1980 by Governor General David Beattie. 2010, the school had more than 2,500 students and was led by BJ Bentley.

Whanau House System

As the first public school in New Zealand, the Macleans College makes use of the so-called " Whanau House System". This divides the school in 8 houses, which belong to each of about 300 students. This creates within each house a sense of cohesion and belonging. During the school day the houses are even referred to as a surrogate family. Above all, make yourself interesting sporting events through this system, since it is possible to pit against each other different houses. The eight houses were named after famous New Zealanders: Batten, Mansfield, Rutherford, Kupe, Hillary, Te Kanawa, and Snell Upham.

Exchange students

The school is mainly financed by fees paid foreign guest students. The price for a one-year residence school in 2010 is 15,000 New Zealand dollars ( about 8,500 € ( price 11/2010 ) ). Students with a permanent residence in New Zealand are exempt from this fee.
