Macquarie University is a university in the north of Sydney, Australia.

Founded in 1964, the university after Governor Lachlan Macquarie, the first Governor of the State of New South Wales was named. Macquarie laid the foundation stone for the Macquarie Lighthouse, a lighthouse for the supply ships headed for the Bay of Sydney. The Campus North Ryde is located about half an hour from the city center. On the 135 -acre site there is also a sculpture park, a golf driving range, two hotels and museums. Also on campus was the Macquarie University Research Park, have on the research departments of companies such as Siemens, Cisco Systems and Nortel Networks settled.

The Macquarie University had in the year 2010 31.286 students in three faculties ( colleges ) in the nine faculties ( divisions ) are divided. With a share of 35 percent of all students, the Division of Economic and Financial Studies is by far the most important faculty. Especially famous is the MBA, which is offered by the Macquarie Graduate School of Management. In the global MBA rankings by The Economist Intelligence Unit, the program took place in 2004, 50 in Asia- Pacific ranking even Tier 1 The smallest program at Macquarie University is the Master in Politics and Public Policy (MPP ).

52 percent of the students were not born in Australia, 29 per cent are foreign nationals, of which more than half come from China and Hong Kong.
