Macrothemis
Macrothemis is a string of 43 kinds of dragonflies genus. The genus belongs to the subfamily Trithemistinae and was described in 1868 by Hermann August Hagen. As Generotyp served a previously designated as Libellula celeno dragonfly. The distribution area extends from Arizona and southern Texas through Central America to Central Argentina
Features
Macrothemis species are comparatively small to medium sized dragonflies and reach lengths of 29-52 mm. The brownish or black abdomen (abdomen) is heavily diluted in the middle and becomes thicker back again. As on the abdomen so can also be found on the blackish or brownish chest (thorax ) white and yellow spots or stripes. In some species, the otherwise transparent wings of females are brownish tint.
Habitat
Macrothemis - Imagines occur along rivers and hunt in particular in areas where the water flows quickly through rocky terrain. The larvae later occur both in stationary and in moving waters. But in running waters they prefer slower waters regions. Often, they burrow into the ground.
