Madame Royale

Madame Royale was the title of the oldest living unmarried daughter of the French king. The title was similar to that of Monsieur, which was worn mostly by second-born son of the French king.

The title was borne by Élisabeth de Bourbon, the eldest daughter of Henry IV After her death the title passed to her sister Christina.

The best-known bearer of the title is Marie Thérèse Charlotte de Bourbon (1778-1851), the daughter of Louis XVI. As has been suggested by a well-known as the Dark Countess mysterious personality, she is the true princess Marie Thérèse, was also spoken of her as the " Madame Royale ". In the British royal family there is the appropriate title of the Princess Royal.
