Morgan County

Madison is a city in the U.S. state of Georgia. The population is 3636 (as of 2000). The city is the seat of Morgan County.

Quite a few houses before the Civil War have been obtained or restored. The Travel Holiday Magazine chose the city as the most beautiful small city in the United States.

History

Madison was on the way to the Northern States - General William T. Sherman laid back during the Civil War. On this " march to the sea " land were deliberately vandalized and burned cities to weaken the enemy confederation materially and morally. Madison was captured, but spared. Reason for this was that Madison was home to the pro-Union Senator Joshua Hill. Hill had a good relationship with Sherman's brother, whom he knew from the West Point Military Academy. Hill intervened in favor of his hometown.
