Madisonville is a city in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The place sits the administration of the district Hopkins County.

History

Madisonville was founded in 1807 and named after the former U.S. President James Madison. In the early 20th century was the site of the center of the railroad, coal and tobacco industry.

In the 1960s, Madisonville developed away from the industry towards the service sector. For example, a shopping center was opened with adjoining cinema.

In November 2005, a tornado destroyed parts of the city. Here, the power failed, also the mayor imposed a curfew and declared a state of emergency.
