Mado Robin

Madeleine Marie Robin, known as Mado Robin, ( born December 29, 1918 in Yzeures -sur -Creuse, † December 10, 1960 in Paris ) was a French coloratura soprano.

Critics praised her vocal range that extended to the four-line D. In 1936 she was discovered by singing teacher Mario Podesta and trained coloratura soprano. Due to the war, she made her debut only on 7 December 1944 as Gilda in Rigoletto at the Opéra -Comique. In the following years she appeared on The Magic Flute Queen of the Night, in Les Contes d' Hoffmann and Olympia, in Il Barbiere di Siviglia as Rosina and in Les perles de pêcheurs as Leyla among others in the operas. The role of Lakmé in the eponymous opera by Léo Delibes was regarded as their favorite game.

Private life

At age 17, she married the Englishman Alan Smith, but he died shortly after the Second World War in a car accident. She herself died on 10 December 1960 in Paris of cancer, shortly before 1500. Performance of Lakmé at the Opéra -Comique, which had prepared the event for her birthday.
