Mae Chan District

Amphoe Mae Chan ( in Thai: อำเภอ แม่จัน ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the north of the province of Chiang Rai. The Chiang Rai province is located in the extreme north of the northern region of Thailand.

Geography

An important river of the district is Maenam Kok (Kok River ).

History

The district was founded as a successor of Mueang Chiang Saen. The original center of Mueang later became part of the sub-district of Chiang Saen Luang. This was renamed in 1939 in Chiang Saen, during the then existing district Chiang Saen was renamed to Mae Chan.

Management

The circle is divided into eleven subdistricts (tambon ), which are further subdivided into 138 villages ( Muban ).

There are three small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district - Mae Chan and Mae Kham each consist of parts of the tambon same name. Chan Chava consists of parts of the Tambon Chan Chava and the whole tambon Tai Chan Chava.

In addition, there are nine " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.

The missing numbers refer to tambon which now form the circle Doi Luang.
