Maevatanana
Province
Maevatana is a city and capital of the Betsiboka region in Madagascar. It lies on the River Ikopa and the trunk road RN4 Mahajanga - Antananarivo.
Economy
Agriculture represents approximately 60% of the major economic sector of the community represents the majority of the population of the community are farmers. The main crops are rice, tobacco and sweet potato. The fishing employs 13 % of the population.
History
1885 Madagascar France was awarded at the Berlin Congo Conference as the " area of interest ". In the battles of conquest around the coffee and rice plantations of Maevatanana alongside the locals also lost many soldiers französche their lives. A monument from 1895, in the immediate vicinity of the only gas station Maevatanana, reminiscent of some 300 fallen French soldiers.
