Magdalena Dobromila Rettigová

Magdalena Dobromila Rettigová ( born January 31, 1785 Všeradice, Bohemia; † August 5, 1845 in Litomyšl) was a Bohemian- Czech writer and representative of the Czech national movement.

Life

The daughter of the Viscount of Všeradice, František Artmann, had several siblings, but died early. She grew up under the care of her mother who taught her to read and write to the age of five. The friend of the house, Eugenikus Frank, once educators with Count von Kaunitz, it also conveyed a deep faith and brought them to write prayer books for young girls. The quiet but lonely life running Magdalene was interrupted by the death of her father in 1792. Her mother was forced to move to Pilsen, and the ten- year-old girl first visited the school. She was an avid reader, wrote stories of their classmates, which came from the country to the part, and was particularly interested in for Bible stories.

After another move to Prague deepened their cultural interest. She attended the theater and began to write plays himself.

Up to the age of 18 she controlled only the German language. It was only after her marriage with the Czech patriot and lawyer January Sudiprav Rettig 1808, she was taught by him in the Czech language. He also introduced into the circles of the Czech national movement. They lived in Leitomischl and organized there for the movement of social events and cultural events. Unlike other women she did not try to enforce the emancipation, but also brought the girls home economics skills at.

The last period of her life is characterized by an accident. You broke his hand and could not use it. A tough draw for a woman who was devoted to her husband, the household led and like to cook. One year after the death of her husband she also died.

In 2010, she was honored in the Czech Republic with the release of a stamp in her honor.
