Magdalene of Brandenburg

Magdalena von Brandenburg ( born January 7, 1582 in Berlin, † May 4, 1616 in Darmstadt) was a princess of Brandenburg and by marriage Countess of Hesse- Darmstadt.

Life

Magdalena from the House of Hohenzollern, was a daughter of the Elector of Brandenburg, Johann Georg (1525-1598) from his marriage to Elizabeth (1563-1607), daughter of Prince Joachim Ernst von Anhalt. She married quietly, shortly after the death of her father, on June 5, 1598 in Berlin Landgraf Louis V of Hesse-Darmstadt ( 1577-1627 ), with whom she had become engaged already in the previous year.

Magdalena died shortly after their participation in the Naumburg Princes in 1616. She was buried in the town church Darmstadt. The death of his wife met Ludwig so hard that he went in the years 1618-1619 on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, which brought him under suspicion of wanting to change over to Catholicism.

Magdalena left the Hessian library many volumes theological and historical content.
