History

The Magdeburg- Halberstadt railway Actiengesellschaft received on January 14, 1842 by the Kingdom of Prussia, the concession to build the 58-kilometer railway line Magdeburg- Halberstadt Oschersleben, which was opened on 15 July 1843. By a treaty between Prussia and the Kingdom of Hanover a continuation of the train was backed to Braunschweig and Hanover already at this time. The MHE was one of the most profitable in private cars, two-digit dividends were the rule, in the 1860s they could even pay dividends of partly more than 20 percent to its shareholders.

The expansion phase of the railway began in 1863, when - initially motivated by a defense to the increasing competition - adjacent lanes as the Magdeburg -Wittenberg Ash railway company were bought. In this context, the Lehrter Bahnhof in Berlin was built. The acquisition of Hanover Altenbekener Railway Company gave the MHE access to the web and thus the Westphalian Ruhr. With the purchase of additional tracks - including the highly profitable Magdeburg- Leipzig Railway Company - grew its route network to 1879 at a length of 1024 kilometers. Thus, the Magdeburg- Halberstadt railway belonged at the time of nationalization of the largest German private railway companies.

The MHE bought in 1870 along with the Berlin- Potsdam- Magdeburg Railway Company and the Magdeburg- Leipzig Railway Company, the 55 -acre site for the construction of the Magdeburg Central Station, built in the Western reception building of the Berlin- Potsdam- Magdeburg society and shared by the MHE been. 1873 America Line was completed, the management was also responsible for the MHE. On March 17, 1876, the MHE acquired the Magdeburg- Leipzig Railway Company.

In December 1879, the Magdeburg- Halberstadt Railway Company was acquired by the Prussian state after the shareholders of MHE had approved the takeover bid by the Prussian government with the required two -thirds majority ( 13140: 6441 votes).
