Magelhaens (lunar crater)

37.2

Magellan is an impact crater on the southwest shore of Mare Fecunditatis in the eastern part of the lunar front side. It is located south-southwest of the crater Goclenius about halfway between the craters Gutenberg in the northwest and in the southeast of Colombo.

The outer edge of Magellan is narrow and irregular and only very distantly circular. On the southeast side closes the barely smaller satellite crater ' Magellan A'. The crater interior is flooded by basaltic lava, which gives the crater floor the same dark color as the Mare in the Northeast. In addition, it forms a flat surface without special license plates.
