Maggie Gobran

"Mama Maggie " Gobran ( b. 1949 in Egypt) is a Coptic nun and founder of the organization Stephen 's Children. She is a lecturer at the University of Cairo.

Gobran grew up in an affluent neighborhood of Cairo on, shielded from the misery and poverty in their environment. In 1989 she gave up her academic career and founded the charity Stephen 's Children, which advocates for the residents of Cairo's slums. Gobrans focus is primarily on the Coptic families living in impoverished areas in the increasingly rural Upper Egypt.

Gobrans work was in the wake of the Arab Spring more difficult because the Coptic minority has increased to fear reprisals from the Muslim majority in Egypt. Also, the fact that the 2012 produced Mohammed insulting film Innocence of Muslims was produced by a Exilkopten, worsened the life of the Copts.

Also known as " Mother Teresa of Cairo " revered Gobran 2012 was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination was made by the Republican Congressman Frank Wolf, Bill Huizenga, Joseph Pitts, Robert Aderholt and John Carter.
