Maggie Jones (blues musician)

Maggie Jones (* 1900 in Texas; † after 1934) was a popular American blues singer. She was known as "the Texas Nightingale " ( the Texan nightingale ).

Maggie Jones took effect in 1922 for the first time in New York City. In 1924, she took two titles (Four Flushing Papa / Mama Blues Jealous ) for Columbia Records, accompanied by Lemuel Fowler. She joined the O. T. B. A. Circuit. In 1926 she was with Clarence Muse and sang in the choir of Hall Johnson. In 1928 she hoofed it to the Blackbirds show, where she appeared with Bill Robinson.

Finally, Maggie Jones returned to Texas. In Fort Worth, she had her own revue. 1934 loses her trail.

From Maggie Jones 38 recordings have survived. The first was published in 1923 on Black Swan Records, the last was on October 3, 1926. The majority of the recordings was released by Columbia. She was accompanied by such well-known colleagues such as Louis Armstrong, Fletcher Henderson, Charlie Green and Elmer Snowden.
