Magne Thomassen

Magne Arnfinn Thomassen ( born May 1, 1941 in Melhus, Sør -Trøndelag ) is a former Norwegian speed skater. He participated in international competitions 1962-1972.

Thomassen was Norwegian Allround Champion of the Year 1968 ( Rating race over 500 m, 1500 m, 5000 m and 10,000 m). In the same year he won at the X Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble silver medal in the 500 m, behind Erhard Keller and at the same time with Richard McDermott.

In the all-around world championships in 1968 and 1970, he came second in the Sprint World Championships 1970, he won the bronze medal. 1970 and 1971 he was also Norwegian sprint champion.

On February 5, 1972 Thomassen scored in Davos over 1500 m, a time of 2:02,5 min, setting a new world record. However, this was surpassed two days later by Verkerk Cornelis.
