Magnesia ad Sipylum

Manisa (Greek Μαγνησία ἡ ὑπὸ Σιπύλῳ; Latin: Magnesia ad Sipylum ) was an ancient city in Asia Minor, Lydia landscape at the site of present-day Manisa in Turkey. She lay at the northern foot of the Sipylos Mountains and on the banks of the river Hermus.

The Battle of Magnesia in 190 BC between the Roman Republic in alliance with King Eumenes of Pergamum on one side and Antiochus III. the Great, King of the Seleucid Empire, on the other hand, ended with a Roman victory and led 188 BC the Peace of Apamea.

Magnesia was later a free city in the Roman province of Asia. 17 AD taught at an earthquake severe damage, whereupon the Emperor Tiberius organized financial and organizational assistance for the reconstruction.
