Magnus Arvedson

Magnus Arvedson ( born November 25, 1971 in Karlstad ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player and current coach. During his playing career he played, among others, between 1997 and 2004 for the Ottawa Senators and Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League for the position of left winger.

Career

Arvedson began his active career at Örebro IK, for whom he played between 1990 and 1993 in the then Division I second-rate. In the summer of 1993, he joined the club of his birthplace, Färjestad BK. There he ran from then on in the Elitserien for the team. After only a few uses in the first year at Färjestad he finally succeeded at the age of 22 years the permanent jump in the league. In total, he spent four years at Färjestad and played among other things, in the European Hockey League.

After the Swede had been selected by the Ottawa Senators at the age of 25 years, surprisingly, in the NHL Entry Draft in 1997 in the fifth round at 119th place, he moved in the same summer to Canada. There he ran into the following four years for the Senators in the National Hockey League. His best point yield during six seasons until 2003 in the Canadian capital had 47 points in the season 1998 /99. In addition, he was nominated for the Selke Trophy as the best Frank J. Defensive Forward, which his plus / minus rating of 33 in addition contributed. In the election, he defeated the Finn Jere Lehtinen scarce. The two following years were marked by injuries that were each about 30 games per season, missing the striker. It was followed by two stable years with over 35 scorer points between 2001 and 2003. Arvedsons poor performance in the playoffs however, led to the fact that the senator did not renew the expiring contract. So changed the Swede as a free agent to league rivals Vancouver Canucks. After a difficult start, he found himself mid-season in a forward line with the Swedish twin brothers Henrik and Daniel Sedin again. With these Arvedson harmonized well, but he suffered a serious knee injury. This already forced him to end of January 2004 to end the season.

Since Arvedsons contract expired and his injury status was not clear, he found in the NHL no new employer. Therefore, he wrote beginning of August 2004 a contract with his former club in Karlstad. However, the injury ultimately prevented a continuation of the career. Two months later, on October 11, he gave therefore to withdraw from active sports known.

After his playing career end Arvedson pursued a career as a coach. On 30 March 2007, he became head coach of the Swedish Elitserien clubs Mora IK. Mora oversaw the Swede only nine months into the season 2007/ 08 in, before he was dismissed for failure on 26 December. Arvedson took place in the second division Bofors IK but soon a new employer, who took him on 9 April 2008 under contract. There, too, worked the former attacker only seven months. The release followed on November 17, 2008.

Internationally

Arvedson represented his native country for the first time at the World Championships 1997 in Finland. He was able in ten tournament games contribute three points scorer and won the team silver medal. Five years later he was at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City are also in the Swedish squad and completed four tournament games.
