Magnús Guðmundsson (politician)

Magnús Guðmundsson ( born February 6, 1879 in Rútsstaðir, Svínadalur, † November 28, 1937 in Iceland ) was an Icelandic politician ( Conservative Party, Independence Party ) and Justice, Finance and Prime Minister of Iceland.

Life

Magnús studied at the University of Copenhagen Law and graduated in 1907.

For his constituency in North West Ireland he was from 1916 until his death a member of the Icelandic parliament Althingi.

On February 25, 1920 he released Sigurdur Eggerz from as finance minister and held the office until 7 March 1922. His successor was Magnús Jónsson

After the death of Prime Minister Jón Magnússon Magnús held the office between June 23 and July 8, 1926, he was succeeded by Jón Þorláksson.

Magnús was a member of the Conservative Party Íhaldsflokkurinn, a predecessor party of the Independence Party, he was one of the founding members.

Three times he became Justice Minister: First, he took over the office in the wake of Jón Magnússon on 8 July 1926, it led to 28 August 1927 until he handed it over to his successor Jónas Jónsson. On 3 June 1932 he took the post again from Jónas Jónsson and led it for a short time until 14 November 1932 and was succeeded by Ólafur Thors. From this he took office on December 23, 1932 and again it held until July 28, 1934. His successor was Hermann Jónasson. Magnús held the office so that in the first government of the Independence Party.

Magnús was married to Sofia Bogadóttir.
