Magyar Rádió

The Magyar Rádió Zrt. (short MR, German Hungarian Radio Aktiengesellschaft) is the public radio company in Hungary and operates six channels.

Radio stations

The pillars form the transmitter MR1 - Kossuth Rádió, MR2 - Petőfi Rádió and MR3 - Bartók Rádió that are to receive nationwide and send round the clock. MR1 - Kossuth Rádió

Dankó Rádió

Dankó Rádió launched on 22 December 2012 and will be disseminated through the medium wave transmitter of the former regional station MR 6 Régió radio. It plays mainly Hungarian folk music.

History

The broadcasting in Hungary began on December 1, 1925, the broadcast of his radio program, which is about two years after the recording of regular radio operation in Germany. Shortly before the Magyar Telefonhírmondó Rt was awarded the hosting rights for the radio, then as Telefonhírmondó Magyar és Rádió Rt ran the first radio program from Budapest. 1932 Budapest II was launched as an entertainment channel, while the first program should inform.

As a result, its political significance as the first electronic mass medium, the Hungarian radio was repeatedly the scene of dramatic events in modern Hungarian history. The inclusion of the Wehrmacht and Hungarian troops by the Red Army at the turn of 1944/45, was accompanied by the Germans with the confiscation or destruction of the broadcasting assets.

During the riots of 1956, the radio building was fought as an important center of the revolution and communist propaganda.

The then third program of the Hungarian Radio was launched in 1973 and got its present name Bartók Rádió in May 1987. The older two stations were named after Kossuth or Petőfi already on 1 February 1949.

After the end of communism in Hungary the Hungarian radio of the European Broadcasting Union occurred in 1991. The foreign language, international broadcasts of Radio Budapest were discontinued in 2007.

Reception

Terrestrial

  • MR1, MR2 and MR3 can be received via VHF nationwide. MR1 sends in certain periods also on medium wave.
  • The minority shipments of MR4 are transmitted over four medium-wave transmitter.
  • MR6 sends its regional program on local FM frequencies ( the studio Raab but only on medium wave ).

Satellite Radio and Internet

All programs can be heard on the Internet and via satellite exception of folk music station MR7 as a pure Internet stations. Partial past broadcasts can be reheared also on the website of Magyar Rádió.
