Mahagnao Volcano

The rock of the forested volcano is classified as andesite. The steep crater of the mountain is open to the south. Two lakes, the Malagsom and Danao, located on the southern flank of the mountain. The Malagsom is filled with acid green water. The Danao, however, is filled with fresh water, at its southern shore, however, find hot springs. An outbreak of Mahagnao is reported from 1895, but there are no further information about this activity of the volcano known.

To the Mahagnao was declared a nature park Mahagnao Volcano Natural Park, covering an area of 6.35 km ² February 3, 1998. The Leyte Mountain Trail leads from the Natural Park for 40 kilometers away Danao Lake, the high country on the island of Leyte.
