Mahmoud Hammoud

Mahmud Hammud (* 1935 in Kfarkila, Mardschajoun district in southern Lebanon) is a retired career diplomat and former foreign minister of Lebanon. Hammud is a Shia Moslems.

He served as ambassador to the United Arab Emirates ( 1978-1983 ), the Federal Republic of Germany ( 1983-1985 ), the Soviet Union and Finland (1986 to 1990) and the United Kingdom ( 1990-1999 ) and is one of the pro-Syrian politicians.

In October 2000 Hammud was first foreign minister. Following a cabinet reshuffle in April 2003, he was Secretary of Defense. Following the appointment of Omar Karami to Lebanese Prime Minister in October 2004, he was again appointed Secretary of State. Karami and his Cabinet resigned due to the Cedar Revolution in March 2005. His successor was Fawzi Sallukh.
