Mahmoud Jam

Mahmud Jam also Modir Mahmud al Molk (Persian محمود جم; * 1884 in Tabriz, † 1969) was a senator, ambassador to Egypt and Italy, Governor of Kerman (Iran) Kerman and Khorasan, Finance Minister, Interior Minister, Minister of the Court and Prime Minister of Iran.

Life

Mahmud Jam came in 1884 in Tabriz to the world. He began his career as an apprentice to a French pharmacist in Tabriz. After his apprenticeship, he left the city and worked for the next eight years as a translator and secretary to the French embassy in Tehran.

In 1919 he was appointed by Prime Minister Hassan Vosough to head the state-owned grain storage and grain distribution. Prime Minister Hassan Pirnia appointed him Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1920.

In the summer of 1920, Mahmud Jam became a member of the company founded by Seyyed Zia al Din Tabatabai Komiteh Ahan ( Iron committee ). After the coup against Prime Minister Fathollah Sepahdar Akbar in 1921 he took over in the cabinet of Prime Minister Seyyed Zia al Din Tabatabai the post of foreign minister. In the cabinet of Prime Minister Reza Khan Mahmud Jam was finance minister.

After deposing Ahmad Shah and the appointment of Reza Khan to Shah by the Iranian Parliament was Mahmud Jam Governor of Kerman, and later of Khorasan.

In 1933 he took over the Interior Ministry and in December 1935 Mahmud Jam became Prime Minister. He should hold this office until October 1939. After his replacement as Prime Minister by Ahmad Matin - Daftari Mahmud Jam took over the office of the Court Minister. In this role, he experienced the 1941 Anglo - Soviet invasion of Iran, Reza Shah 's abdication and the appointment of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, his successor. In September 1941, he resigned as Minister of the Court, and was ambassador to Egypt. In 1948, he took over again the Office of the Court Minister.

After serving as the Iranian Ambassador to Italy, he became a member of the Senate, the second parliamentary chamber Iran's newly founded in 1949. He remained senator until his death in 1969.
