Mahmud Bayazidi

Mahmoud Bayazidi or Mehmûdê Bazîdî (* 1797 in Doğubeyazıt province Ağrı, † 1859) was a Kurdish writer. He began his study of literature with the reading of the Koran and the reading of Arabic, Persian and Turkish literature. Later he went to Tabriz to continue his studies. After finishing his studies, he returned to Doğubeyazıt and became a teacher. After the fall of the Kurdish principality of Bayezid he went to Erzurum.

Works

1856 asked the Russian academician A. Dorne to the Russian Consul in Erzurum, August Jaba, for employees who were able to translate Kurdish fonts. Bayazidi therefore helped A. mandrels to gain Kurdish writings on culture, language and history of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg. So edited Bayazidi 1858-1859 the Kurdish - Arabic -Persian grammar book by Ali Taramokhi, a Kurdish writer from the 15th - 16th Century. Bayazidi wrote a book with 3,000 idioms, granted the insight into the life of the Kurds in that time. This book was translated into French in 1880 by Jaba. From the comments of Jaba shows that Bayazidi had written a book about modern Kurdish history (from 1785-1858 ), which went down to the French translation of the preface but lost.

Jaba and Bayazidi collected more than 50 volumes of old Kurdish manuscripts, the store now in the library of the University of St. Petersburg. Among them are works by Feqiyê Teyran, Malay Bate, Melaye Cezîrî and Mem û Zin of Ehmedê Xani. 1961 MB Rudenko was an anthology of these writings out.

1858-1859 wrote Bayazidi and Jaba the first Kurdish - French and French - Kurdish dictionary and published it in 1879. During the same period Bayazidi translated the Şerefname of Şerefhan from the Persian into Kurdish.
